MANAGEMENT AND EDUCATION FOR DIABETES WORKSHOPS AND INDIVIDUAL SESSIONS

Since 1985, Mount Sinai St. Luke’s and Mount Sinai West’s Management and Education for Diabetes Program has been helping patients to better understand diabetes and learn self-management skills to help them control the disease. The program is recognized by the American Diabetes Association as one of the oldest certified education programs in New York City.

Our group diabetes workshops are for people with type 2 diabetes. These educational classes explore the facts and myths of the disease, complications and risk factors, the importance of monitoring blood glucose and the interaction of food, exercise and medications. Various self-management techniques are discussed. The group education workshop includes a set a 3 consecutive sessions each 1 1/2 hour long.  A physician referral is required in order to attend the classes.

In addition to group classes, we offer individual diabetes management and education sessions for patients with both type 2 and type 1 diabetes. The individual sessions include carbohydrate counting, insulin pump management, insulin pump and continuous monitoring system initiation, .
